San Carlos

The northern zone of Costa Rica is affectionately known by Costa Ricans (who are themselves called Ticos) as San Carlos. It stretches from about an hour north of the capital city of San Jose to the Nicaraguan border. Ask almost any Tico to list their dreams and a weekend home in San Carlos would surely make the cut. The same is true for any tourist planning a trip to Costa Rica.

The amount of media coverage of the small country of Costa Rica in the past few years has been nothing short of amazing. From its commitment to peace by eliminating its army 60 years ago to setting aside 25% of its land in some form of protected status, Costa Rica certainly deserves the attention. And those in the know can tell you that San Carlos is the hotbed for biodiversity, adventure tourism, and more.
